India, officially known as Republic of India, ranks second in the world in terms of population, next only to People’s Republic of China. As was revealed in Population Census of 2011, India has a total population of 1.21014569 billion. The country is home to almost 17.5% of the world’s population but occupies only 2.4% of the total area of the world.
